Hello, hope I have found the correct forum to post in.

Recently purchased a 2001 CLK 230. While driving the Roof operation switch red light came on and then blinked about once per second. When I stopped and restarted it, the same everytime I turn the ignition on and start the engine. The roof will not retract, the windows go down, but when I pull the switch nothing happens, including the headrests at rear not going down. I can move the headrests up and down using the dashboard switch but they do not move when the roof switch is used.
Also, the boot will not open with the dashboard switch, or the key fob, but can be opened manually with the key.

I am feeling these three things (the roof not retracting, the roof warning light flashing, and the boot not opening) must be connected somehow. I wonder if there is any advice that I could try before embarking on what will doubtless be a very expensive dealership route.

Many thanks.

i've ben having issues with my roof too, different but to help a bit, is the roof fully closed and locked? if not that stops the boot from opening period ( as i found out)

Probably best get it on a STAR machine to read the codes as a starting point maybe

Yes, roof definitely closed. Boot opens with the manual key but not from the key fob or the interior switch.

Very new to Mercs and no idea what a STAR machine is, is this something an independent Mercedes service place would have?

Look to see if the fuse has burnt contacts. It's in the fuse box in the trunk!!!!!

Good luck with it... hope you get it sorted soon :)

Popped the car into Prestige Horndean. Roof functioning ok, was some issue with the rear head restraints not going down. Dash warning light still on. Their computer diagnostic says the roof is closed properly but the warning light is on (which is why the boot wont open). Have this horrible feeling this will be one of those long term problems!

Must add a thanks to Oliver and Jack at Prestige for looking a the car so quickly and only making a very modest charge for their time.
