I have a CLK 230 2000/1 and the plastic trim of the surround to the heated rear window lugs have broken off allowing the trim to drop forward. Main dealer tells me that the trim is all part of the inner lining and all has to be replaced at great expense. Any ideas as to a simpler way to reinstate. Thank you. Bob

I don't know the CLK specifically, but, most trim on that type have lugs that sit into a metal holder inserted in car body panel. Assuming the break was caused by the holder being stronger than the moulding (quite common), it should still be possible to retieve the broken piece from the catch and glue it back on to where it broke away from. Then just refit the panel. Clearly it will break again if you attempt to remove trim, but that's not a regular occurence. (And a new one wouldn't be any better).

Is it the side panels (20) you need?
