I have just bought a CLK that has been fitted with AMG wheels by the previous owner - are the tyre pressures the same as on the standard wheels as the handbook does not specify,

Tyre pressure

Thanks for advice - I knew tyre pressure info was in filler flap, but I didn't know that pressure stayed the same whatever wheel and tyre size.
Once again thanks for reply.

TYRE pressures will not vary more than a few pounds .
Has he fitted wider rims or tyres?Or just amg rims.
If they are the same size go by the chart on filler flap.

I think that the pressures will only be unchanged if the tyre size is the same as original, and most people go for wider lower profile tyres when they buy new rims. Best bet is to take advice from a good tyre specialist.

SClass - what does the arabic script on your signature mean?

AMG wheels are bigger and wider than standard wheels. Also the rear wheel is wider than the front wheel, whereas standard wheels are all the same.

The front size is 225/45 ZR17 and the rear 245/40 ZR17.
You may know this, buy not everyone does and this is supposed to be a forum where hopefully people are able to expand their knowledge.
P.S. I have found in life that people who treat others as idiots are usually the biggest idiots themselves.
Best wishes.

I'm the same, I have AMG 17" rims on my CLK and the tyre pressures remain the same as the standard tyres, that's what my tyre man told me.

I agree, there is no need to take a sideswipe at any questionner on here,. The world has enough conflict, no need to add to it here.

Yes, just to confirm, even with the AMG wheels, which have different size tyres to original, the pressure chart in the filler cap still applies.

I personally run a lower pressure in the rears as I rarely have luggage or passengers.

I was just about to ask the same question about tyre pressures, as I have 17" rather than the normal 16" on the CLK... thanks to all that contributed with advice (sclass you must learn to be more patient).

I don't think he needs to be more patient - I think he needs a personality implant.

I agree,

I'm only new to the site but have read most of the articles. Everyone seems to be very helpful and supportive except sclass. I wouldn't really go by his advise to be honest.

Leading on from the question of tyre pressure on larger wheels on CLK's - does anybody know if fitting a larger wheel from standard sizes affects the readings on the speedo?

twomercs -

Still dont agree that the tyre presssure doesnt change with tyre size but the speedo question is easy -

Provided you fit the "correct" rims / tyre combination the speedo should stay correct. The tyre width isnt really important here, but as you move to a bigger rim the appropriate tyre will have a lower aspect (or profile). This means that the overall diameter of the tyre stays the same, just that you have more metal and less tyre. Provided that the overall diameter remains the same the number of tyre revolutions per mile is constant and the speedo is ok. This is why its important to get the correct rims / tyres for the car rather than just the biggest / lowest profile that will fit

Mark.

tyre pressure

Try your local petrol filling station or tyre-fitter or mot testers. they have a great big chart of vehicle makes and tyre sizes and pressures for consultation. Barring that, you could try the tyre manufacturer and see what their advice is. Try 30psi/2.0bar to 32psi/2.1bar as a safe-ish fall back in the meantime.
