CLK W208 boot locked and battery disconnected

Hi all,

Had an accident last week, fire truck arrived and said that they needed to disconnect the battery. They went into the boot and disconnected it.

They then shut the boot.

The doors are unlocked so I can get into the car, but the rear seats are locked into place. The boot will not open on the key fob, or by taking out the little manual key and using that in the boot key hole.

I've read a few posts about how the power can be restored by adding power in the engine bay, but I'm wondering will this work even though the battery is disconnected and therefore there is not a complete circuit?

Any help greatly appreciated as I have some very valuable items in my boot that I need to get out ASAP.

The car was involved in a frontal collision so the front end is not in great condition either, if that makes any different.

Thanks guys

Mike

Just take the plastic cover off on the bulk head, and you have two terminals where you can join up a 12 volt source, couple up and the boot will work on the remote.

The battery does not have to be connected to do this

Thanks a lot for your help.

What do you mean by 'couple up'?

This is a 2000 230K by the way.

On my car (Left hand drive).

In the engine bay there is a plastic pop up cover just in front of the main fuse box. Connect a 12VDC supply to the +ve terminal under the cover and the negative to the chassis. This will give your car the power it needs to then use the remote boot release on the centre panel between the two front seats.

Hmm, so should I be doing what jamesmc has suggested, or positive to positive and negative to negative like I would normally when starting a car with a dead battery with jump leads?

I intend on doing this tomorrow with my dads car as the power source (W124 230E).

Yes red to red, a battery is much kinder to the car, as it will just be 12 volts and no more, you do not need the engine running on the donor car , your pump will open the boot in a few seconds

Television thanks very much for all your help I hope this works.

Another question as I am clearly not a real man who doesn't know much about car repairs...

So I don't need to do the black to black as well?

The black negative must be joined to any metal part of the car, or the neg terminal under the cover, you must have both wires connected from the donor car

In effect what I have suggested is the same thing (as suing jump leads on a battery) but, because you are unable to gain direct access to you battery terminals, then the connections I have mentioned are the next best thing as the +ve terminal is connected direct to the battery via a long cable.
You connect positive jump lead (red) to that.
You connect the negative jump lead (black) to any bare metal part of the chassis.

This is only to open the boot and I wouldn't use this method to jump start the car.
If you ever need to jump start the car open the boot first, then connect directly to the battery terminals for the jump start.
