After a battery change on my clk 55 amg W208 my headlight washer arms are locked out! I have disconected power to the arms by removing a power socket at the front corner passangers side, causing the arms to return.
However a constant noise from where i beleive the relays are housed (behind the main fuse box under the bonnet) can be herd as if it is locked on. Operating the switch can cause the sound to disapear for a second but with no affect!!!!
Can anyone help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks

I have tried to disconnect the battery again but not for 5 minuites! if i can get at the relay are there any votages i can test for to confirm a broken relay? Also during the battery being flat i cleaned the interior and dusted the switch pannel, the switch operation looks fine and doesnt appear to be jammed but is it tyhe case that the relay is correct but the input signal is jammed?
Realy appreciate yor help MB will charge me so much!
Thanks in advance.

Did you use any chemicals when cleaning the interior? It sounds like the relay contacts are stuck in or are getting power when it shouldent. :?:

Once you have located the relay, the next step would be, try swapping the relay for an equal relay in the relay box. Whats the effect?

Thanks

No chemicals were used when cleaning! Looking at the link helpfully provided earler in the thread the offending relay (44) seems to also operate the ESP and windshield wiper! both of these servises seem to be working fine! Is relay 44 a block of relays? will there be spare relays in the box and how is the right value relay identified?
Thanks!

Just looked at Malcolms post. Swap 41 with 44 and see how.

Relays looking the same is one thing, being the same is another, I would not swap them around Most have the same pin configurations and holders, thats where it all stops.

There are three relays in your schematic malcolm that are the same part No., so could be interchanged ie windshield wiper, headlamp wash/wipe and ESP.

P.S. As a rule on most cars these days relays are colour coded and if they're of the same colour and have the same nomenclature on the pins they can be freely interchange for diagnostic purposes
