Thought I would post a couple of pics of changing the power steering fluid , I did the E class yesterday but did not take any car pics .
Jacked the car up at the front , disconnected the return flow pipe near the bulkhead which was MUCH easier than my OM642 , nothing was in the way .
I then used a large syringe to drain the Overflow reservoir (couldn’t for some reason get a pipe into my E class reservoir ) .
There was very little moving of any of these old hoses .
I then plugged the hose from the reservoir and added another pipe (orange one) into a container for the return dirty oil .
Turned the steering lock to lock a few times with regular reservoir top ups until the new fluid came out .
Reconnected the hose and clic-r clamp then did the steering again 10 times lock to lock , checked the fluid level again .
I put the cap on then and turned the engine on for a few more lock to locks .
Lowered the car took it for a 15min drive and checked the level again…..job done . A slow 1.5 hour job .
Maybe used 1.2-1.3L of oil

Good work! One of those jobs which rarely gets done.

To be honest, I’m always too lazy & scared to run the run pump dry so do a bodge job with a pipette which can’t be as good. The mercedessource bloke says there’s a filter built into the reservoir so it should be replaced but that seems a massive overkill to me unless the car is super high mileage.

It’s done with the engine off so no danger of running it dry . I refilled the reservoir at each lock to lock because I was by myself doing it . I would guess that you good do lock to lock 2-3 times before the reservoir emptied ??
I did hear about the reservoir filter replacement but I had heard that sometimes the pressure of fitting the new reservoir back with a new o ring onto the pump requires a lot of pressure ? I think I’ll leave that for the next owner .
