CLK200 - Starter won't work

Hello everyone.
A friends CLK will not start. You can turn the key to the start position but nothing happens. The auto shift locks in P. The esp light is on. Seems like an imobilizer problem as everything else works. Any ideas. Sounds like a dealer thing but its worth a shot here first
