Check that the locating pegs on the top of the engine mounts are in their proper slots. In the wrong place they could stop the mounts bolting securely. Can you see excessive engine movement when you rev?

Thanks for the reply.... Yes the locating pegs are both sitting in they're slots... Im bazumpted by this... Somethings definitely moved because when I fire the car up or switch it off there's a hollow rumble noise like 2 things coming into contact with each other...

Heat shield somewhere, exhaust or cheap engine mounts.

i would try loosening the mountings and see if the motor "wants" to move then tighten them again. i once had a new ford xr3i re shelled (dont ask) and when i got it back there was a nasty noise and vibration i was gutted, when i got home ,i loosened the gearshift remote fasteners as i loosened the last one the thing shot into a new (unstressed position ) and that was the end of that . also check the exhaust is not now in a slightly different position and catching somewhere going on yr post ,also something not in its original place at or near steering system was the car showing the present issue prior to changing the mountings ?

Thanks matey... Think ill try that.. Loosening the mounts and see what happens... The changed all mounts without disturbing the exhaust... Or heat shield...2 bolts per front mount and 4 bolts transmission mount... Nothing else was touched...

if nothing improves the matter change mountings one by one back to original and see, yr post seems to refer to a bit of a mix/match of makers mountings and you did not say what made you change them in the first place

Yeah it is a bit of a miss match.. I didn't think it would matter so long has the part numbers coinsided with the manufacturer part number... I changed the mounts because there was vibration when coming to a standstill and if the car was started with door open the door would shake its tits off..... Both those problems are gone but I'm left with this new problem

Yes mate I'm getting there... I'll source a new passenger side mount when time let's me... I googled febi mounts last night on another merc forum... People have had serious vibration issues with them... I thought I'd done something seriously wrong.. Im glad that's not the case... Im now a mount wizzo... Can change em in 10mins,

possibly more caused by miss match ,than one make ,thing is which one to get without issue ,i normally buy mid range product ,unless its a 2 min job . then i might taake chance on cheaper stuff.

That's right matey... I normally go midway too... But for £30 I thought I'd take the chance.. Obviously it went pear shaped.. Maybe on another car I may have got away with it but now I know how sensitive the clk steering is it wasn't to be...
