Looks like the problem has been solved by the main dealers but would like some feedback on the subject! i am sick of the main dealers to so need a rant!

was accelerating heavy one day and engine diagnostic light came on, the engine lost power from then on and at low speeds the engine was vibrating ( cylinder not firing) - took the car in to merc after doing about 30 miles like this and they charged me £102 for basically doing nout! the mechanic said unit 6 was not firing so cleaned the fuel rail out and the top of the injector? whatever that means and it was ok - light was reset.

This happened again a few months after again after heavy accerleration where i took it into the dealers at a different location and after an hour looking said they could see nothing, they reset the light and i did not get charged.

It happened again last week a couple of months after the last one and i took it in to the same dealer as before. They said it was not firing on unit no 2.
They proceded to change both ht leads for that unit, after having to order the parts in. The car was meant to be ready for 10am next day as i was going down south. 12 came and it was still not ready. Eventually the car was test run by the mechanics and it still wasnt running properly- they said the fault had swapped to a different unit! To cut a long story short the dealership changed every ht lead on the car(12) it seems to have cured it.This cost me £230 in parts as i argued i wasnt going to pay labour as they should have fixed it the first time.

The question is though should this happen on a merc? it has only covered 49000 miles and does not get a hard life as i work offshore so it is only getting driven 6 months of the year! it is a 320 convertible 2002.

I am really starting to wonder about owning a mercedes with their continual faults! the hyuandai coupe is looking more attractive

To top it all off i got an a service at the same time where they tried to add parts on the bill they did not fit! comments please!!

You are one of the lucky ones. Plug leads are VERY common for going wrong as well as coils on your engine. Its the age of them not the milage that affects them.

You should have gone to a specialist. A set of non gen leads are ony £50.

You must remember that your are driving an expensive car to fix/maintain/run.

The dealer obviously does not know what they are they doing.

Thanks for your input.

I am just sick fed up of mercedes and there dealerships just now.

Yes i accept that i am driving an expensive car so the costs will be higher but should the car breakdown as much? what are you paying for?
Merc are getting too complicated for their own good! why fix stuff that wasnt broken? Looking at the whole new range of mercs the quality has went real down hill! Just look at the cabins of most of their new ones compared to say 5 years ago, all glitzy and americanised.

Also a wee gripe is the staff at the dealerships. The service manager used to be a time served mechanic, they are now 20 year old girls who do not have a clue what they are talking about and have no mechanical experience! Its like talking to a brick wall.

thoughts please

Exactly like my local dealer.

Three women on reception (nothing bad about that) One used to be a mechanic the other two came from hotel reception!!!!

I like it because more people come to me to have their cars repaired!!!!
