CLS 55 AMG supercharger

The supercharger on my 3 year old CLS 55 AMG runs immediately the car is started from cold. On warm mornings there is just a low supercharger whine, but on cold morinings there is a very loud whine which carries on for 3-4 minutes and then quietens down. During the starting period I do not apply any throttle.The main dealer informs me that this is normal for the supercharger to be driven during the start-up period, but technical documents I have read indicate that the supercharger is only being driven (via an electromagnetic clutch) during acceleration and hard driving.

The correct answer would be appreciated.

You do have a magnetic clutch, that work with the air flap, though the belt is running all the time, the clutch does not engage till needed and when on boost

its your supercharger tensioner that is acting up, needs a new belt and tensioner and the whine disappears, if its only really noticanle from cold it will be alright for a while but it will get worse, just replaced on on a E55 last week, common fault i will post the part numbers shortley
