If you watch the episode of Top Gear where Clarkson drove it, you'll see that in comparison to the new BMW M5 it;

Cost less
Has slightly less bhp
Was a quarter second slower round the track, with the Stig driving.

From that you can see that it's got a fantastic engine, can handle incredibly well, and from what I've seen in the stealership, are comfortable to boot. :D

I have an 05 CLS 55 and the car is magnificent in every way. Engine faultless smooth, power is legendary, rear space unless you are 6ft plus is fine certainly great for my family of 4 for long trips. Boot space has to be seen to be believed. All round this is a great vehicle, styling gorgeous and still looks different and striking, in my view a quick classic.
I use mine as a regular car now has close to 40k on the clock and could not be happier no thoughts of changing.

Personally I think it is still one of the sexiest cars on the road with that sloping roofline. The AMG 55 engine is truly awesome. So far as I am concerned, it's a no-brainer - I'm just waiting for the kids to grow up so I can get one.....

The CLS has got to be one of the best looking cars on the road. I think it's that classic art deco 30's streamlining-style swage line from the front wheel arch extending the full length of the car, looks totally classy. VW must think so too, looking at their Passat CC.
