CLS auto gearbox

Have new 320cdi CLS and am not very happy with the 7 speed auto box - seems to be indecisive and a not as smooth as I would have expected. It is 5 months old and has done 10K miles mainly european motorways; have had a more recent software download but doesn't seem to have helped much. Anybody out there experiencing the same? It's due for its first service inc4K miles but would like to know if this a common problem.

Interesting comments here, I was led to believe that the 7 box offers much better changes than the 5, I even posted this tonight on a thread. since I want the 7 speed box on my next car, I will do a little research, may take a little time. you may get more answers if this was in the genral section, though of coarse it should be here.

I've seen a few comments that the 7 speed can suffer from jerky changes, especially the lower gears. Someone with (I think) an ML had the box changed and the new one was no better. I have seen a comment from a CLS owner who said a software update seemed to fix his.

I have a new CLS CDI and have had a couple of other 7 speed E Class, I think the 7th gear is a waste of time and have had the odd "clunky" shift between gears, Good Luck

I have the 7 speed auto box in my ML320CDI and it works fantastically well. I have also driven an S320CDI with the same box and it felt as well matched. Can't offer any solutions unfortunately other than try another CLS and see if it feels different.
