My 2013 CLS shooting brake is booked into Stratford upon Avon MB for recall to replace bolts to power steering which I feel is very important however they say that my car is due a diesel software update which I told them I I don’t want after reading posts on here. They also want to install Mercedes Me, now I’m unsure as to if Me is worth having on a 2013 car, does anyone have any thoughts?

I'm just going to get my Indie to look at the power steering bolts as I don't trust MB to NOT do the software 'upgrade'. I wouldn't think that Merc Me could tell me anything I don't already know about my car.

It's been a few months since they sent me my letter re the steering bolts .... I'm surprised they've not been back in touch

Mine's booked in for tomorrow. I will be very firm that they DO NOT do any sort of software update. All I have to contend with then is the long list of "essential work" tha is (but actually isn't) needed. :)

The dealer will be paid for doing the update so in all likelihood it will be done with some lame excuse afterwards about poor communication if you query it

This is why my airbag recall is still outstanding.

I would have thought you can stick messages to ps windows ( whatever ps means), post it notes to dash board, explain to service staff etc but unless they have acknowledged your instructions you are stuffed. Maybe someone more clever than me could pen a letter that I could get signed as a ‘legal document’ so that I could have proof that the service staff have been informed of my request to not update software.

If I end up sending mine in for recall, I will fit a dummy obd port first.
£12 off ebay. I really don't trust the dealers.
Google the issue. Loads of cases of people insisting they don't update the car but it has been done regardless.

Just for info.

Got it back from the Main Dealer with job done and a free complimentary health check (the car not me). They headed my instruction not to do any software updates (I made them write it on the work sheet) and the health check threw up that the front brake discs/pads are 70% worn and apparently my tyres are starting to wear (who knew) with still 3.9mm on the most worn parts. So, all in all a good day :) Will get brakes done at next service in September

I'd love to know where they get these kind of figures from. I think most of the time. they see a wear ridge on the edge of the disc & then just think of a number. I have all sorts of measuring gear, but short of removing the caliper, there's no way to measure the thickness of all the disc face .... especially when there's wear ridge.
Similar to Wrighty, I'm still on the same front discs 4 years/35k miles later that MB said were worn enough to need replacing when they did a health check weeks after I'd bought the car.
They are playing the safety card.

I would check this thoroughly and form my own opinion. Was there an advisory in the MOT ? Is the pad wear marker light showing ? Are the discs excessively thin/grooved/rusty ? Disc thickness is easy to measure with a micrometer.

It will go to local indiy in September for service and I'll trust their judgement :)

I sent my R Class in for the servo and airbag recalls and explicitly said do not do the ECU update as it has a remap and if you overwrite it you will be paying for another. I watched as they made the note on the job sheet.

They did everything except the ECU update.

I agree.

We use a laser tyre tread reader on all our services. It gives a 3 point tyre wear report, and also measures the disc thickness with a the same laser measurment. This allows us to give a MM wear rating on the discs on our service report.
