Hi all,

Wonder if anybody can advise…

I’m looking to have the rubber spacers removed from the top of the rear springs (I don’t like the ride height as it’s currently set). Am I right in thinking they come in multiples of 5mm? Can you remove all the spacers? Or does there need to be at least one to seat the top of the spring?

Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

Cheers,

Martin

5,9,13,17, and 21mm.

Hi there,

Thank you for that! From what I understand the number/total mm value of spacers is variable dependant on the options fitted to that particular vehicle?

Do you know if having no spacers is an option? From what I see I think my rear ride height is 25-30mm higher than the the front.

If I have to have a spacer, do you have any links for a set of the 5mm spacers?

Thank you!

Apologies; hadn’t clicked the link. This looks like a US site (prices in $). Do you know of a UK supplier?

Yes you can remove them to drop the rear , i did mine on my CLS350 (W219) , they are all around 4mm but because the spring is located half way along the rear arm it drops the height by more than the thickness of the spacer (s).

After :

Hi there,

The ride height you have is exactly what I’m looking for. So there is an option to remove them all and the spring is still seated at the top ok?

Thank you!

I think I took them all out , five a side IIRC.

Bit of a PITA as there is a plastic location peg that you have to clear to remove the spacers.

I’m not too worried about that, the garage is getting the job

It’s more to see if there has to be 1 left to seat the spring, or if it can be left completely without.

Thank you though, invaluable info!

Personally I'd leave one in place to provide noise isolation (that is their primary function - height adjustment is a secondary function).

You can see the buildup on this eBay listing . along with the spacers.

I think i removed all the spacers as there is an upper spring seat that goes against the inner part of the underbody.

Depending on how many spacers you have it maybe better to get lowering springs - if you only have one spacer then it will not be worth the bother to remove it for all the drop you will get , 5+ spacers and you will see a noticeable difference.

I usually do a part no. search on Autodoc or similar. Even a simple google will give you some results normally.
Do you know what size you have currently as you might be able to see how many 'dots' they have to identify?

I’m going to have a look to see if I can work out the rough total mm value of the spacer(s) on my car. Based purely on the current clearance I think I have quite a bit but I’ll see.

What do you mean by the ‘dots’?

They have moulded dots e.g. 5mm = 1 dot, 9mm = 2 etc
This is the 'burl' mentioned in the EPC I linked to.

All the spacers on mine were the same size , around 4mm thick , more options = more spacers , see the picture in the eBay link in post 10.

The pic of my car is with no rear spacers at all and it sat perfect , IMHO.

Been out to have a look and agreed with this; mine has 5 spacers fitted, all the same size. Exactly like the eBay advert.

I called Merc as well and they confirmed the spacer sizing. I must have 5 X 5mm which will give the sort of drop I’m looking for when removed.

It wont , the spring is midway between the suspension arm pivot point and the wheel so 25mm at the mid point will be more at the outside which in your case is good as it will stop the looking nose down ar$e up.

The spacers can be removed in-situ by using the type of spring compressor that goes up the inside of the spring and pulls it down far enough to slide the spacers out.

That’s better then, I’m really looking for 30mm at the wheels to even it out to the front.

Gotcha on the spring compressor and thank you for that.

Have you had any issues when carrying luggage/people?

Perfect, thanks mate.

It’s 99% either just me, or me and our daughter, so it’s not going to be an issue. I suppose I also don’t ever have to worry about having a full tank of fuel again either so that makes it easier
