Hello I'm a newby.
I am possibly looking at buying a CLS, not new, something about a year or so old.

I have heard that the CLS is prone to electrical problems, is this true or have I got the wrong end of the stick:confused:

I am either looking at the 350CGI or the 320D

Hello - and welcome. Nice shape the CLS.

Someone will be along to advise, soon.

Hi & Welcome,

Not many CLS owners posting on here with problems, the first of the W211 E's had some electrical issues so the first CLS's may have the same issues however the age your looking at it shouldn't be a problem and with a 3 yr unlimited mileage warranty you will have 2 years to find out if it has any issues.
Depending upon the cost difference between petrol & diesel and the amount of miles you drive I doubt there would be very much in it between the CGI or CDI. I would find the best car with the most toys and take that one.

Hi. Found this on the net. Hope it helps.Johnny

Bought this car direct from MB as an ex-demonstrator. Really happy with everything, so far. I have had over 12 new MB's since 1985 including three S class's and this is probably the best. The performance and economy is amazing for this size of car. I average over 40 mpg on a 700 mile run to southern France and average of 80 mph according to the trip computer. Not bad for a car that can do over 150 mph.
The 7 speed gearbox is seamless and the engine is very quiet for a diesel. I would highly recommend this car. The only fault is that it can be noisy on certain road surfaces but I think a tyre change fro Goodyear to Continentals might resolve this.

Hello and welcome pxl :D

As far as I know there are no real problems on those cars, you will have the galvanized body and Nano ceramic paint.

Very nice cars

Thank you all I appreciate your comments.
By the way, the reason I am looking at a year old or so is that I can't stand that new large chrome grille they have added to all new cars, very crude.
Mind you that is only my opinion, no doubt there will be many that think its great.

They won't have the gremlins that the early 211's had. It will have been fitted with the electricals of later 211's.

My only gripe with the CLS is the lack of interior space relative to an E and pilerless doors (unnecessary in anything other than a drop top).

Go for a 320cdi if you can, it will be easier to sell on.

I agree with the interior space, I also need 3 rear seats quite often so the CLS is out on that score for me. I was looking at a friends 08 CLS on the weekend and he was lucky to have one of the last of the non facelifted ones with the full Comand in it rather than the cut down version in the face lift ones.

They face lifted the CLS recently, but I didn't know the comand was pared down. Whats missing in the new face lifted cars Comand?

I assume they (CLS) are taughter cars so better to drive at the expense of comfort. IMHO a 211 is better value £ for £

The soft keys down the sides are missing and it is much harder to enter addresses. I didn't go further into it as I spent so long trying to enter the data I gave up. I guess if I wasn't used to the Comand in my W211 which was the same as the CLS then it might not be so much of an issue.

Could Alfie retro fit an older comand unit?

I am surprised that MB would make the system harder to use, surely some small bits of plastic don't set them back that much?

Does CLS have SBC?

I saw an Indian couple paid £32K for a 3 years old cls320 at Lancaster, Lakeside at the beginning of this year.

If it really a W211 outwith the jelly mould shape then it not worth it.
