Never ever experienced a window issue with any car in 1.7 million miles of driving and despite the CLS219 having provided trouble free motoring, it’s stunned me today, out of the blue.

I put the window down and it sounded rough, a bit like glass being crushed in mechanical gears. So once down, I put it straight back up, again same noise only this time it was slower and looked a bit rougher going up. So whilst all the electrics work, even when it’s supposed to drop/rise when opening/closing the door, the window does not drop/rise automatically. The window is now on the wrong side of the seal and is not water tight.

Would this be a regulator and assembly or something else?

Sounds like the regulator

Grazie Mille.

I’ll service it a bit early and grab a regulator as well as a service kit and get it booked in asap.

ECP only list a StarLine brand at £148. Would StarLine be ok for this part or should I look elsewhere?

Not heard of them, have you had a look at Autodoc. I’d dissemble first and see if a rivet or something has broken.

Sadly I have zero time to work on cars due to personal circumstances over recent years. It just needs to go into either of the local MB Indies here and for the sake of a few quid I’d rather the part is in the car, than wait and extra day or two for the Indy to get it. If it’s not needed I will return it.

StarLine is the cheaper end of the offerings generally on all parts and not something I’ve ever bought.

If you’re keeping the car I’d go for an OEM regulator in all probability the pop rivets holding the gear segment have come loose coupled with wear on the teeth hence the noise and loose window

AUTODOC has Ridex and 2 more cheaper priced brands, all below £150.

That’s why I was asking if this is one of those parts where it wouldn’t matter if it’s genuine or not.

Will give MB Newcastle a call tomorrow as nothing shows on their eBay.

Car is booked in for next Wednesday.

Window regulator from MB Newcastle ordered for £195ish including delivery. This should prevent any delays in the work shop.

Just getting the rest of the full service kit items ordered up so all parts will be ready.

MB centre confirmed the issue was indeed the window regulator. So thanks for the accurate suggestion! MB Newcastle were spot on with service. The car went in today for a service and the window issue, having the part to hand has saved at least a day of waiting and the car is now ready for collection the same day
