CLS55 Boot lid will not lock

Hi , complete newbie to MB . Recently got an 2005 CLS55 with battery issues . Replaced battery but now can't get boot lid to stay shut/locked - I can push it down to closed position but , even using lock button on fob ,it won't engage or stay locked . All other locks engage . I've had similar key problems to others on forum where spare key won't turn the locks (2 , 1 on drivers door , 1 on boot) so I'll try the wd40 and electric toothbrush tricks but just wondering if there's a switch or workaround to at least lock the boot . TIA .

Thanks for your reply. Possibly , at the risk of being a complete div , how could I tell. ?

With the boot lid open, press the latch with a screwdriver and You’ll see if’s working or not

screwdriver is forcing the latch to turn but its not holding - I would expect it to . Tried wd40 . anyone know the market for a boot lock mechanism?

With the boot lid open, press the latch with a screwdriver and You’ll see if’s working or not

Thanks axelcls , tried the latch trick on another vehicle and the latch catches . Release handle on boot doesn't do anything either so looks like lock mechanism needs replaced . Found 1 on eBay so ......

Garage confirmed that cable had snapped between the handle and the locking mechanism . new part ordered . thanks for your help
