I have a C220 CDI 2001 model.Does anyone know if the OBD2 code readers advertised can read the codes on this model.Plenty advertised for C Class but only list petrol models.

I think to find one for the SL it will be over £1k,big problem is that there are not many where you can just buy one outright, as once off. The only option for me would be to do code reading for other people, maybe that's not a bad idea.

I think you mentioned a PC based diagnostic at 1k.You can buy code readers for a lot less that just give a code number which then relates to a specific item.

Hi, If your car is equipped with OBD2 which it should be post 96, then all "generic" codes should be able to be read with a budget code reader wether it is diesel or petrol. If you need to get more detailed or manufacturer specific codes for things like body control systems etc then you will need to purchase a more comprehensive scanner that can then be used for reading live data and have more diagnostic facilities. Thats when the price goes up!, as your paying for comprehensive software and functionality to do more complex operations such as key coding and ecu matching. I have a Launch X431 and it does Mercedes cars very well.
Cheers

Yes the is a little difference between £4k for a Launch, and £25 for another cheaper one
And people moan about the price for a read out.
