Hi guys, Merry Christmas to you all.
I have a friend who has a problem with his 2000 y plate c180 w203. It runs very unevenly when cold at tickover, it rises and falls in RPM by as much as 500 rpm And when warm at junctions when turning all the extra strain put on the engine makes it want to stall when you pull away. He put a diagnostics machine on it (a little handheld one that he uses to switch off the management light that comes on every now and again ) and it came up with the following codes....P0101 and P0172 the first one, is it the MAF ? but dont know what the second is except it says System too rich Bank 1. Thanks for your input....Derek

When the engine speed goes up and down, it is always an air leak on the inlet somewhere.

At idle, the vacuum is at max, it sucks in air from the leak, the engine speed increases, as it increases the vacuum goes down, so does the amount of air going in and it slows down, only to repeat the cycle

I am investigating a new supplier, but have info for the time being,, that leaves a Bosch service center at around £145
