If I may impose on your forum to ask a question.
As a Captain for american Airlines I have quite a few freinds that fly to London.
I have a 1982 Mercedes 300TD W123 station wagon and a 1988 560Sl W107
I have been looking for a coil spring compressor and the units here in the States are quite expensive.

The Sir tool is $600US.

The Klann is $869US

I find parts and items related to Mercedes to be a lot cheaper in Europe.

What would you pay for one of these tools in England?
Additionally how much does Mercedes want for the proper tool for a W123. The Mercedes tool is $1200US here.

Thanks So Much

Dave

Hi

I have just worked out the exchange rate & the tool is about the same price here. Whether you buy from MB or Klahn it does not seem to matter. Although I have found MB slightly cheaper than Klahn although it is Klahn that actually make the tools. I would of thought it would be cheaper to use a specialist to replace the springs as you will only use it may be once or twice anyway.

Sorry I can't be bearer of good news .

PS. I doubt any body will ie specialist will have the tool for the front of the 123's.

ps You don't need a tool for the rear springs on 126 or 123 if you know what you are doing!!!!!!!!!

I want to thank you for your time and effort. With those prices I will probably rent the unit from a company here that does rent it. I usually like to have my own tools in my shop. But sometimes renting is the better way to go.
Again Thank You

I replaced the front springs on the 240td w123 with just a cheep pair of coil spring compressors from a motor factors for about £18.00 or $24.00 Ring Blitz on 01727 850965 add the uk code and drop the first 0 if calling from outside the uk. There is plenty of room under the front. Jack up the front of the car remove the wheel and then lower wsh bone onto something sturdy. This will recompress the spring. Fit the spring compressors and tighten. Jack up the car releiving the pressure from wishbone. If your lucky you will be able to lift the springs out. Chances are you will need a crow bar (nail bar in the states I think) to jemmy it out.

It is always the rear springs that break. at the bottom in the trailing arm. If you want a detailed explanation on the removal procedure then just ask. It involves seperating the self levelling hydraulic system. You are bound to need spare parts

High all, I am desperate to find an independant garage in gloucestershire that can fit the lowering springs to my car this week, or someone who can lend me ( I will leave my fiance as a deposit) the spring compressor to do the job properly !!!!!!
