ok my first post !! been looking at the forum for the past week trying to gain all the info i can on my car.

Car is a 1987 300e 6 cy petrol.

the first prob i had was with erratic idle. looked in the forum .Cleaned the idle control valve ane all is good :D not done it since.

The only prob now is the car smells like it is running rich and not getting the MPG i whould expect.

Dose the cold start valve have 12 volts going to it to activeate it on or hold it off ?

if i dissconect the lead to it and run it with out will it be ok.

Dose the air temp sensor control the cold start valve ?
if so am i better replacing this first ?

(if only it was as simple to work on as my aircooled VW engine)

Thanks for all and any help

Hello and welcome,
You can pull the plug on the cold start valve, and it should close, they are controlled by sensors, both air and water

I think they use 2 seperate sensors on the 300 one for temp guage and one for temp sensor.

I have some spares should you need them.
