Hi,

At the risk of boring everybody.....how difficult is it to retro-fit a Comand APS to a 2005 C220 coupe (CL203)? The car, to my knowledge, has none of the 'infrastructure' for the Comand fitted at manufacture.
What items in addition to the unit itself would be required, since I gather it's not just a question of take the radio out and slot the Comand in?
Assuming it's not too difficult would a second-hand unit from a W203 slot in satisfactorily? (I hear rumours to do with different gyroscope angles. Are these the same on the coupe as the saloon)? (There always seem to be a couple for sale on eBay for approx £500 with the MB part No. A203 870 35 89)

The car currently has the Mercedes CD/radio installed (I gather this potentially causes different problems to a radio/cassette being installed)!
The steering wheel has the various control buttons (again I believe this makes a difference)!

As you can see, the only information I have are snippets from various places that I struggle to piece together to come up with a clear picture of what's involved.

Thanks in advance
Lulu

If you have the Audio 20 CD, you will need a AGW (Audio Get Away)
If you have a Audio 20 CC, It should already be there.
It is located somewhere in the boot.

Thanks for your response,

I have the Audio 20 CD so I'll need to get the Audio GateWay.
Is it really as simple as that, just the head unit an an Audio Gateway?

Thanks

The comand for the W203 is a complete unit unlike some of the other higher class cars. It already has the audio gateway inbuilt within the unit. For more information and part numbers check out this web link. Hope it helps - it is important to make sure you get the correct comand unit. Part number will start with 203......

Note item 8 on the second link for refernece to the gateway.

Thanks for the information.

It's beginning to look like I only need to get the head unit, or have I missed anything?
I presume that if the part number begins with 203 then it'll work equally well in a CL203 as well as the W203?

All information welcome!
thanks

Be careful because not all A203 part numbers will fit W203 or CL203 cars. The older A203 part numbers are totally wrong for your car.

You will need one of the newer units such as the one you have mentioned. They are self contained (unlike the W211 units) so all you should need is the head unit, and antennae, map disk and loom adapter. Take a look at Richards http://www.mercupgrades.com site where he details how he retrofitted COMAND to his new A class. The job will be pretty similar.

Good luck

Again, thanks for the information.
Richards www.mercupgrades.com website looks very good and informative.
The picture is slowly crystallising, and it doesn't seem that difficult or complicated. (wait 'till I get burnt on eBay!)
