COMAND CD for Different Countries - What happens when you insert it elsewhere?

I bought a Mercedes DX CD for my 2000 S-Class, which according the package is what I need. It says 'COMAND APS, B6 782 3392' DX Version 3.0. It also has ViaMichelin. When I put it in my COMAND unit it cannot read the disk or recognise it. It just keeps asking for a CD to be inserted.

When I have inserted a disk for another country in other navigation systems they normally still know where you are and the worst they can come up with is 'The road you are travelling on is not located on digitized map.' That does not happen with this CD. I am in the UK and the disc is for France. Do I have the wrong disk does the unit know the disc is for a country where the car is not currently positioned?

Thanks.

Your car does not have COMAND APS fitted. You have Comand 2.5

Your car should still read the Cd even if it is for France. I suggest you obtain a genuine disk from a reputable source.

Thanks Alfie for your helpful response. It is genuine Mercedes CD (not Teleatlas direct). It says it is compatible with my car on the box and has a picture of a COMAND 2.5 screen, but maybe that's incorrect.

Anyway, I can return it to the dealer without a problem and ask them for the correct CD.

Thanks for your assistance.

Somehow, I don't see a Mercedes dealership buying discs for resale from eBay, nor can I imagine that people selling duplicate discs on eBay would go to the trouble of having a 72 page full-colour, multi-lingual booklet professionally printed.

As a matter of fact, I once bought an Audi navigation unit on eBay, which came with a copied disc (2003/4 for the UK) that I replaced with a genuine Teleatlas (non VAG branded) disk. I still have that copied CD, which works fine when I test it in my COMAND unit. The problem I had was with the Mercedes ViaMichelin CD, so my experience is the opposite - you're more likely to have a problem with a Mercedes disc than an eBay CD.

It seems there may be nothing wrong with the disc, but if you just push it in it doesn't work, whereas if you press the eject/load button to load it then it works. I'm not sure why that is the case.

Believe me there are some very good copies out there with booklets and sealed too. Its only when you put them against a genuine disk that you can see the differences.
