I have a problem (master of the understatement!)

A couple of months ago I did some retrofits to my new 2008 E280CDI.

I swapped an Audio 20 for a Comand APS head unit and added CDC, AGW and Sat Nav DVD drive. The Comand and Sat Nav were s/h, both manufactured second half 2007, the CDC and AGW are new. The cabling looms were bought on ebay and seem to be of a professional manufacture.

At the same time I also added a Dension Gateway 500 ipod interface.

Everything works perfectly and I haven't had a single problem with any of the equipment. Next step was to get the car coded and that is where I seem to have run into a brick wall (second time in 3 months but the other time it was a real brick wall hence the new car!)

It has been looked at by two garages both with Star diags and they have been unable to code the car. The first garage doesn't have a lot of experience with this but the second has done a few. The gist of what was said (if I remember it correctly) is that a short scan throws up a number of unknown devices but if he goes directly into the cluster section there is no option to add the Comand head unit.

I can live without the Sat Nav directions in the cluster (although being a bit of a perfectionist I would like to have the job completed) but I can't afford to need a warranty repair and the MB garage wondering WTF I've done to the car that throws up all these unknown devices!!

If I'd known in advance I was going to have these issues I would have physically disconnected the Gateway 500 first. That said it is fitted with a two way switch, one position being the "service" mode that is supposed to make the Gateway 500 "invisible" and the CDC "visible" to the diagnostics. I did make sure the switch was in the correct position.

Unfortunately the guy who has done this before doesn't have easy access to the Star diag so I can't just keep going back every five minutes. I'm happy to pay to get this sorted out but living in the north east of England I don't seem to be able to find anybody with a lot of experience in this area.

Does anybody have any suggestions please?

I don't thing he is active on this forum any more, you might have to e-mail him or something like that.

I know what you mean, it might seem cheeky, but if you don't ask you will never get, these people like to help or they would'nt be on forums i suppose.

Yes, you are right about people being willing to help in forums.

It does look like his last post was in December but I've also posted about this at another forum that I think he still frequents ;)
