Comand Compatability!

Hi All,

Firstly Thanks to those who replied to my previous threads!

Are there any comand systems that i should avoid, as I have seen loads for sale on ebay, selling for a whole range of prices. I have a comandless S320 CDI on a 2001 plate with an Audio 10.

You require a COMAND 2.5 system.

You should therefore avoid any comand 2 system which includes any unit starting with the following part numbers;

A163
A208
A210
A203
A211

Take a look at Richard Almeida's excellent retrofitting document at www.mercupgrades.com which details the part numbers for an S class.

Does this mean that I can't fit a comand 2, or that it is a huge job to do it if I do.

I would prefer to fit a later model comand with DVD/wide screen, is this not an option for me, and if so what would be involved?

Hi,

The S class was designed to take COMAND 2.5 and not the COMAND 2. If you could get it to fit it wouldnt look very good and you would most likely need a custom made fascia for it.

There may be some non OEM DVD based systems you could use. Your best approach to that would be to visit your local car stereo type place and ask them what they can offer that will look neat in the car.

Post a picture of what your centre dash looks like at present and i'll then tell you.

I just have the Audio 10 & an empty glasses compartment. I realise I will need a new facia and so thought I may as well go for a later model if it will conect up ok.

I knew the S class was loaded but didn't realise that they had a bar as well. How often do they clean and fill the glasses for you

Your car was designed for COMAND 2.5. The pictures you have posted so far are of units unsuitable to your car. It may be possible to connect up a newer unit but it wouldnt look very good in place and would require substantial rewiring.
