Ordered my COMAND manual from MB, still waiting 4 weeks now, guess the trees haven't grown tall enough yet:) but anyway.....

Is it OK to leave the navigation disc in the unit all the time? I hear it spinning up every so often even when not actually using the nav option but with radio/ipod playing.

Its fine to leave it in there.

What you will notice is that even when the comand is not in navigation mode or map mode it will keep track of here you are. If for instance you travel a significant distance without using the map or nav mode, you then suddenly decide to see where you are by pressing the map button, the unit will very quickly show you a map. It can only do this by keeping track of where you are as to quickly read the disk after having worked out where you are will produce a delay.

I leave the navigation disk in the B class all the time no matter what.

Hi there,
Its recommended you keep the dvd in the command all the time, there sensitive to scratching and as you know ****** expensive to renew. The navi prosessor will constantly read the dvd if inserted, when you press map its there ready for you. You may find that with the dvd out, the street names may be lost on the instrument cluster display. The information for this is updated from the dvd enven if navi is not active.

Thanks for the reassurance Alfie.
This is still the best upgrade yet! Even on well travelled routes I use the Map mode (in conjuction with the TMC) to warn me of any a hold-ups. I've dodged round many on my daily commute.

Thanks again :p :p

No worries. The manuals are notoriously difficult to get. It seems that Mercedes only order a batch of them every few months when they get enough orders.

I'm glad you like the comand. Its one of those upgrades that really makes a difference and can save you time and money.
