Comand software upgrade

Following my post asking whether you can play MP3s on the Comand system in my 2004 W211 E Class I purchased a Comand software upgrade via e-bay. The upgrade is version 4.1, whereas the disc in my system is version 2. The question I have is how do you install upgrade?

When I replace the old disc with the new disc in the navigation DVD player located in the boot the head unit says "insert DVD disc". I therefore there must be some upload/ugrade instruction that I need to enter. Does anyone have experience of this?

sounds like you have the wrong disc when the correct disc is inserted switch to navi and it will up grade auto. If you have version 2 take the car back to the dealers and they will provide version 4 free of charge

instructions on s/w update (from my W211 v4.1 DVD)

0. Do not yet insert DVD
1. Switch on COMAND
2. Press NAV
3. Insert DVD

After a brief wait, software loading bars will appear. When loading bars disappear and basic Nav menu appears, first step of update is complete.

2nd step is to re-initialise COMAND:
1. Lock vehicle from outside.
2. Wait 2 minutes

Afterwards, COMAND is fully operational again.

2nd step sounds a bit odd to me, but that's what it says. You might want to make a note of the s/w version from the Engineering menu before you do the upgrade, to see if it has changed.

[The Eng menu is accessed thus: press MUTE first and hold, then while MUTE is pressed, push END and SERV at the same time. Hold all three buttons in for at least 8 seconds. Be careful what you do in there! ]
