Hi,

I have a 2002 W203 C220 fitted with a comand unit with TV option. The problem is I can tune in to all TV channels and hear the sound with no problem but I do not get a picture. I understand it will not work on the move but this is while I'm parked. Any help would be much appreciated.

There seems to be a variant in tuners that come to the UK if you go to your tuning in menus make sure that you are set to UK = PAL I though if it was set to B/G you would get vision but no sound, does the screen have snow, or is it blue and blank.

Thanks for the reply malcom, the screen is just blue, at the top of the screen is a small picture of a TV with a cross through it.
I once stopped at a junction on the top of the moors and a snowy picture came on but that's the only picture I have seen. I was thinking maybe an arial problem or is there some kind of booster ??? The sound works fine even when driving the reception is perfect.

You getting that icon, and the fact that you get sound while driving, makes it sound like it thinks you are driving all the time. So it could be a faulty switch on the gearbox.

I think that your problem is that you live in a poor reception area. If you have portable TV's that will work with their inbuilt aerial in the house, then the Command TV should work, if your home TV's only work from an aerial on the roof of the house you will have to drive somewhere else to test it.

I live in a very poor reception area with a huge aerial on the roof, portable tv will not work where I live, I have just been down to the garage and tried mine, for 3 of the stations I have sound and a blue screen with the simble TV with a X through it.
Since it may still be tuned to the last owner address if you PM me with your town address I can give you the station numbers it should be tuned to.
The turning off in motion is speed related, I do not think it is that.

Malcom, I'm sure it's not the speed input as when I start to move I get a message on the screen saying picture turned off so not to distract you. My home town is Blackburn, Lancashire. I have used the scan button thinking it would tune to the strongest signal but still no picture.

No your fault is not speed related.

In the first place, you must establish whether you have a good enough signal where the car is standing, if a portable TV works on its inbuilt aerial then your car should if it is tuned to the correct channels. your main transmitter sire is Winter Hill using ch55,62,59 and 65 but there are 50 repeater stations all around, all using different numbers, to hard for me to say.
Check your TV in the house as to what channels are being used, then put the same numbers into the Command on the CH setting and store them.
As I said that if the car has come far from where the last owner used it it will not work until tuned in to the correct numbers.
The Scan funtion only tunes through what is stored in the Command.

Hi Malcom,
I live right on top of a hill, (can see Blackpool tower from my bedroom) and would expect a good reception.
The problem is probable down to me assuming the "scan" button searched the band for a strong signal.
I do not have a book on the comand unit so I bought one off Ebay, the only bit missing is how to tune the TV. I also thought if the signal was so weak then the sound would be effected yet it's perfect.
So the embarrassing question is how do I tune the TV ? (maybe I should let the kids have a go). All I have been doing is selecting a station from the list.

TV channels are grouped from Channel 22 to 69, groups for local areas are formed from group A go from CH21 to CH37, group B go from CH35 to CH53, group C goes from CH48 to CH68.

On your Command you have a button marked * on the right hand side, by pressing this button you should get CH-- on the screen, you can now enter the channel number, enter a number from 22 to 29, if nothing try 33 to 39, then 41 to 51.

if you are lucky and a station comes up, the other 4 channels will be within the numbers on the groups I have put at the top.

If you do not have any luck, then you have a fault, that may be something silly like a plug not all the way home, The sound and vision share the same components for 60% of the way.
