Just found this on fleabay, question is, is this the correct unit for my car?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=220117273632&rd=1&rd=1

My VIN starts WDC2030462, 2006 C180K classic SE.

I suspect it will be the corect unit but could really do with confirmation from Alfie, Malcolm or whoever, just to set my mind at rest.

The seller states that it will be correct for my car, comes with antenna and DVD software version 6.1.

I may even be able to wangle free fitting as well, so don't anyone else bid until I find out.:mad::mad:

Thanks in advance guys, :D:D:D:D

Very interesting ;)

I know the seller of this unit and he is reliable, trustworthy and perfectly able to fit it. Provided your car is a post April 2004 build (facelifted) W203 its the right one for your car.

That said, I might have to buy it myself!!!!!

I'll not bid.

I've been onto the seller, whom I know and the unit is 100% good. Hope you get it for a good price.

Well done.

Your local dealer should only charge you 1/2 hours labour at most. The seller knows the comands that the delaer needs to use so it should be straight forward for them to do it.

Cheers Alfie, have spoken to Alex about this anyway, just don't have much confidence in main dealer.
Just after a ball park figure for the coding, I will give Brian a ring at Mainly Mercs in Busby, previously recommended by another member.

Can you see my grin from there?????:D:D:D:D

Comand

Well, I've gone and done it, just got home after having the comand fitted, turns out that the installer is also a forum member.

So far very pleased with it, excellent service from Alex and very friendly, he's also into bikes as as well which is even better.:D:D:D

Typical though, wife is out shopping when I get home, just have to show her later and have another play with it at the same time :p:p

Anybody else in Scotland interested, let me know and I'll give you some details.

Cheers

Comand Coding

Just been to the stealers to have display coded to allow directions to be shown on instrument display, can't do it.:confused::confused: "You can leave it with us and we'll try to sort something out." I don't think so, but at least they didn't charge me for today's attempt anyway.

Does anyone, Alfie??, have any idea what they need to do to allow me to see turn directions in the instrument panel display?

Comand works fine, sound okay, directions on Comand display fine, just no interface with instrument display or steering wheel controls.

Any ideas welcomed.

You have a PM with full instructions on how the dealer must code the car.

Thanks for that Alfie, also found this on the mercupdates site, don't know if it's relevant,

The latest cars (such as new A class) clusters are coded with a 'SCN' code which the dealer gets from Mercedes-Benz. This code is generated from the MB 'FDOK' database which lists exactly what options the car has, its model year and other important information. So the dealer must have Mercedes add the option code for COMAND APS (527 in Europe) to FDOK, wait for that to be actioned then request the new SCN code and recode the cluster. Some European dealers have the ability to update FDOK themselves, mostly the country headquarters have to do it.

I've spoken to Mercedes customer services who were going to speak to their techies and call me back.

Thanks again,

At Last

After what can only be described as a fiasco, eventually got my instrument display coded for Comand.

The electrician at the stealerships used the info from Alfie, then had to code the Instrument Control Module, which is what I requested initially.

Took him around an hour, but to be fair to the stealers as I told them that I was originally quoted £30 over the phone, they matched the price and only charged me £30.02.

Took a while, but all credit to the stealer for not starting an argument by trying to charge me a small fortune.

Hi Kev,
Glad you got it all sorted in the end. Well done for getting them to stick to their original quote.
It shouldn't be more than £35.00 to do it, but for some reason they seem to struggle with coding the cluster and then try to charge you extra because it took longer, but it's their and lack of knowledge and don't see why you have to fork out the extra.

Regards,

Alex

Thanks again,

Richards site and knowledge are beyond reproach.

This only applies to the post 2006 A, B, C class , W164 ML and R class at present.

SCN coding is not required on pre 2006 W203 cars. I'm not sure of the exact cut off date though. SCN coding was brought in to try and force all retro fits to be done via MB themselves. However, if you know what you are doing...........;-)

I might as well come out and admit that I also ride a bike. 1990 GSX-R1100 L. It is the only 4 cylinder machine in my household. At one time I had a single, a V Twin, a triple, a straight 6, a V6 and a V8. Now I only have an in line 4, V6 and straight 6.

Personally, I'd rather have a big engine and lots of torque, than polar ice caps.

Didn't give him the info regarding the SCN, just the info you kindly sent to me. He then had top go into the ICM set up and code that as well.

All sorted that's the main thing, thanks again for your help :):):)

Now then do I need digital TV ??????????????????:p:p

Also had various bikes with different engines in the past, can't see any of them coping and being as comfortable as the Trophy for my trip to Germany last summer though.

More horses, that's what we need matron, more horses....................:)
