I'd appreciate any advice please!
My command screen was scratched when having my slk valet cleaned. The cleaners deny all knowledge of course and the dealership says I need a new unit (£2500 + vat) as the screen is not sold on it's own. Any ideas to get rid of the scratches or where to get more help?

Alfie, where are you.

Tell you what, I have piles of scrap monitor screens, I will try some plastic polish, see what happens.

There is a replacement screen available on ebay at present. Not sure if its in the UK or Germany but certainly there is one!

Alternatively you could try going to Becker directly and asking them! Your local dealer will try and flog you a whole new comand when you dont need one!

you can definately buy screens as mentioned, someone on another forum had a similar problem and i ponted them to a screen, it was on ebay.de.

here UK,
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-LCD-DISPL...4QQihZ013QQcategoryZ75327QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

not sure how to fit them but sure alfie would know ;)

the dealers would say you need a new unit, as its more money for them and they dont have the know how to take the comand apart and replace the screen.

I am a firm believer that you can always source the smallest parts for anything if you look hard enough, if you know the maufacturer of the unit bosch, becker, contact them if you have any problems

you can also get screen protectors from ebay.com, USA - to prevent this kind of mis-hap (serach mercedes screen protector)

hope it helps

If you are certain it happened at the valeters, just push the point. They are insured for this kind of thing and just because they deny it, doesn't mean that they aren't liable (or they don't know it was them). Make sure they know you're serious and find a friendly solicitor to fire a shot across their bow. Sure you can get the command fixed, but why should you?. Demand they give you the name of their insurers and put in a claim.
There is no way I'd be paying if I was in your shoes.

Flat monitors (Computer) use the same material, I have just tried Mothers Plastic window polish and it does a good job and takes away light scratch marks.
