Hello all ,

Could any one give me some advice on my doors ? , the n/s passanger door was always stiff and last week when the kids got out of the door it wouldn't close , it was just stuck . With more force then I would have liked to have used I eventually got it closed , but not it will only 1/2 open . I'm pretty sure that the culprit isn't the hinges , but its little bar thing 1/2 way down , I know that I will have to take in interiour fitting off the door to get a proper look , but being a ham fisted mechincal retard any pionters as the best way to tackel it ?. As I don't want to snap off any  hidden fixtures in my attempts to get the thing off . The drivers door is also very creakey and its a struggle to fully open it  . By the way the car is a 1989 230 TE.
Thanks

Mike .

As far as i know, that bar is there purely to stop the door swinging right round and hitting the front wing, It is merely a bar with a bolt (or something similar) at the end, that slides in and out up to a certain point.

1st step would be to lube the drivers door one (WD40 or similar) to stop the same thing happening. Do the hinges for good measure as well.

It sounds like the passenger door one was stuck, and it is now bent where it was forced. Its not a hard job removing door panels as a rule, to take it off and have a good look. You might be able to straighten it out with some pliers or something. If you do manage to do that, then dont forget to lube the lot so it dosent happen again!!

cheers

I would reach for the wd40 to free it and then  on an afternoon you don't have a lot to do and give it a good lube

Ive had the same problem, with the same model motor.
I wasn't there but the wife called me and said she couldnt close the rear door the last couple of inches.
I told her that seeing that I was 20 odd miles away at work, she would have to just force it shut.

She them said S@&T and said it made a cracking sound!!!
Now the door wont stay fully open and just sort of blows around in the wind!!!

Is this door check strap thingy the part to get replaced then or will I need another door??

Thanks again all

hello hollo

i have just replaced both rear checkstraps on my 230te and it was an easy job and only cost about £28 for both.
both doors were in exactly the same state as yours and are both now cured.
