Have just seen the above for sale on e bay from Germany at £370, for "refurbished" units.
Whats involved in replacing my Audio 10 unit with this?
Are all the necessary wiring looms/plugs already in "situ" in my dash?.
Many thanks
Dave

There are retro fits for most cars,it has to be the right Command, year wise, and some wires are in the car but not all.

As Malcolm says, you need to be careful which one you buy for your car.

For instance the A208 820 40 89 and A208 820 44 89 are CLK units for a facelifted W208 (august 1999 onwards). The earlier A208 units wont work in a post facelifted car and vice versa. Then there is the A210 units. The A210 820 54 89 and A210 820 56 89 will work in a virtually identical manner to the A208 820 40 89 and A208 820 44 89 but they wont work in a pre facelifted car. If you have a pre facelifted car then the A163 820 36 89 is the best unit for you.

If you have a post facelifted car get an A208 820 44 89 or A208 820 40 89 or A208 820 54 89 or A208 820 56 89. These units will work with your steering wheel controls. an A163 unit wont which is why its best suited to cars without CANBUS (steering wheel controls).

As for fitting, you will need removal keys, mounting plates, antennae, Teleatlas disk and loom adapter. Fitting is fairly straight forward. I have a document that I wrote on another forum all about it ;) You can find it Here

Be very careful when buying from ebay. I've seen lots of suspicious units and damaged units brought to me by customers asking me to fit them!

Command Clk

Thanks for the info Alfie.
The units on offer are 210 820 48 89.
My CLK is a 2001 facelift model with the multi function steering wheel.
From the information you have given this would be ok?
Many thanks.

Be careful. Some of the 48 89 units are CANBUS some are not. You definately need a CANBUS model so it works with your lighting, steering wheel controls etc. Strongly suggest you get one of the following; A208 820 44 89, A208 820 40 89, A210 820 56 89 or A210 820 54 89. Any of these will work fine in your car.

If you want a quote for a warranted unit with all the necessary bits and optional installation, then email me on sales@comand.co.uk. Mention your forum ID when emailing.

2002 CLK 200 Komp
Hi Alfie

Hi Alfie,

I have a Jan 2002 CLK 200 Komp (51 Reg) and have just purchased a COMAND unit. The model number is A208 820 34 89. Will this unit work in my car and will I be able to use the buttons on my steering wheel.

Feel like I'm asking the right question but a after the horse has already bolted... :)

Thx
Rohit

Hello Alfie,
believe me , you are doing a fantastic job helping us novices. Hoping you have the answer to this querry. I would like to replace my Audio 10 in my 2001 CLK Kompressor. I have seen where you have advised replacing it with the post facelifted Command
A208 820 40 89, A 208 820 44 89, A 210 820 54 89 OR A 820 56 89. What I would like to ask is, will the A 210 820 55 89 work?
Thanks. Keep up the good work.

55 89 is a US spec unit not a Europe spec, you want a 56 89.

As NPUK says, 55 89 is not suitable.

In order of preference you should look for the following;

A208 820 44 89
A208 820 40 89
A210 820 56 89
A210 820 54 89

Have a look at my retrofit article which you can find here;

That unit is a very early one. It may not work with your steering wheel controls.

Aftermarket stereo for 2001 CLK

Thanks for the reply NPunk. Will you be kind enough to recommend a good aftermarket unit for me. One that will not cause me any problems with the steering wheel controls.
Thanks
Bunny
