Jason,

I have them, and use them a lot. Are they worth that much money? That's a hard question to answer - like so many things in a car,  once you grow used to it, you can't imagine a having a car without.

I guess a hands free phone kit, and an aftermarket Nav system can be got for less money, but on a new car the integration is (IMHO) probably worth paying for.

Nav system is great - just enter destination before setting off, and directs to the street you want. My wife adores it. Saves all the arguments about her map-reading.

If you simply commute, and do regular journeys, forget it. But if you are going to 'new' destinations frequently, well worth it.

I think the real winner (as ever) is the buyer of a well cared for used car with all the options!

Very interesting,

I notice the climate control unit moves into the spare space section of the dash. Was it an easy retrofit, just out of interest? Somehow I don't think I could afford a COMMAND just at present.

Command

The picture above is from Tony's C55 AMG (owner(?) of the AMG forum in Germany/Austria). His car has the command complete with backup camera and lots of other nice details.
The center panel that houses the command is the original panel without the strip between the climate control and radio slot. The front of the command has been modified to make it fit the slightly larger than 2din slot...

I recently sat in a 1996 C-class with command, E-class steering wheel (with buttons), E-class dashcluster (with large display), linguatronic (fully operatable), S-class rear screen, DVD, playstation and it RULED!!!

Unfortunately I did not take pictures of the system...

greetingz,
