Hi

I have a 2003 SL500 with command. Firstly I do not know how to tell which version or model. My problem is the navigation disc in the command is a 2002 ' Great Britain & Belfast DX'. I want to upgrade this to one for a mercedes benz 2007 disc with TMC. Are the discs compatible?. I notice that TMC in navigation on the command is 'greyed out' will this come live?

Any Thoughts or experience?

You can only use the DX version in your car.

The TMC is only enabled when you use a TMC disk.

The postcode search came in around 2004 although its only 5 digits not the full 7. If you want a quote for a disk, TMC or otherwise, email me on sales@comand.co.uk ;)

This is the version fitted to our cars and was used up to about 04 as Alfie said.

Its the version that I use 2006/7

Hi Malcolm
I'm confused.......page 244 of the command manual quote ' The COMMAND system has been equipped with a RDS/TMC receiver' are you saying DX and our systems do not have TMC capability or that I can only use up to 2006/7 discs.......or am I being thick! In a nutshell what discs can I use in this system for the most up to date navigation and can I have TMC?
Thanks
Martyn.

Your COMAND is capable of TMC if you use a TMC disk.

Get a 2006/2007 TMC disk from a reputable supplier ;) and you will then have TMC capability.

Duiring 04 the Command went over to wide screen with very different software, there are a few differences in the cars,we have an ODB11 network whereas the newer ones have the MOST audio visual system not on the SL till 06 03 and not until the wide screen.

As Malcolm says you need a Dx disk.

I can do a 2006/2007 DX disk with TMC for a lot less than Mercedes. email me on sales@comand.co.uk for a quote.

All,
I have a factory fitted COMAND 2.0 unit in a 2003 C Class and have been trying to get latest DX disks with TMC - bought 2 lots from ebay members and neither set worked at all. Eventually got in contact with ALFIE and tried his 2006/7 TeleAtlas DX TMC disks in my car - Result Perfect - Tried my supposedly "new" disks in his unit and they didn't work - be very careful when purchasing DX disks from ebayers - I believe they are copies.
A VERY BIG THANK YOU TO ALFIE ............BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!
Regards
Alan

Met up with Alan (a nice bloke) and it looks like a couple of ebayers are selling fake disks. The disks Alan had were definately copies but very good ones. The only clues, other than the fact they didnt work, was the lettering on the disks was blurred a bit and the sleeve was the wrong colour. They also didnt come with the warranty insert either:-o

These copied disks may well work in older comand units but they definately cause a lot of re-reads on the system as the system (laser) has to retry many times to get a successful read. This will lead to a deterioration of the life of the laser. It looks like they do not work at all in the W203 comand units as fitted to the pre facelifted C class and W209 CLK.

So as Alan says, be very careful when buying from eBay!

Just to confirm what has been said, I too have purchased a 2006/2007 disc from the chaps at comand.co.uk.

I now have TMC enabled, and I don't appear to be driving in a field if I go on the Abingdon by-pass. :)

Still think it's a shame one can't listen to another radio station other the Classic FM. I know it's because this is from where the information comes, but surely in this day and age a techie in a lab coat could have worked out another way?

Nevertheless, I'm pleased with the service and I'm happy to recommend them.

Cheers, Toby.
