Hi all

I know there are many threads on this forum regarding this, but I wanted one place for all 'agreed'/'verified' information regarding the subject.

Also, before I get a barrage of responses about safety, let us all agree that watching a film while driving is pretty silly and in the UK would invalidate your insurance and likely land you in a lot of trouble with the police.

However, for those that are not based in nanny states and live in places where dodging crazed rickshaw drivers and other road users means one suffers at least one life threatening moment even on a two minute drive to the local shop, believe me, enabling video in motion doesn't even register on the local safety rector scale. Joking aside, can we just use this thread to capture the facts around this issue for purely academic reasons.

Engineering Mode

Now from what I understand there is a document in general circulation that explains how to get into the Engineering Mode. I’ve found several documents regarding this but generally they are pretty much the same. Generally it is the following sequence:

With the radio on press and hold ‘mute’, then press and hold ‘phone down’ and finally press and hold ‘Service’. Now some documents say hold for 3 seconds, some say 5 and some say 45 seconds. Also, the order in which you press and hold these buttons varies from document to document. Failing these there are other combinations that can be pressed and held to put the system into Engineering Mode.

Once into Engineering Mode the rest of the procedure is pretty much the same.

** Can someone please verify the real order in which the three buttons must be pressed?

** Can someone please verify actually how long do the buttons then need to be pressed for?

Now some Command systems do not go into the Engineering Mode at all regardless of buttons pressed and this is believed to be because of updates to the Command Firmware/Software. If the system is running Firmware version 6.0 and below the engineering mode is made available, if higher then the engineering option is removed.

** Can someone confirm this?

** Can the Firmware be downgraded? I’ve read that this is not possible?

Rear Seat Monitor Method

From a posting on the E-class board over at the other forums coutesy of 'OSLO'
Take your car to your dealer, and talk to the guy who is responsible for the Star Diagnostic System.

Ask him to do the following:

1. Menu TV in Motion? is greyed out
2. Activate the Rear Seat Monitor?
3. Then you will have access to the menu: TV in motion? Activate it.

** Has anyone tried this?

** Is the above the right procedure?

External devices

There is a device on the following website https://www.wilhelmy-it.de that claims to enable video in motion for a verity of MB cars. For some reason I cannot create a link to the webpage directly but to navigate to the device, at the homepage choose English, then select ONLINE SHOP – ALL PRODUCTS from the left hand side menu. Then select Mercedes and finally C, E and S class. Here you’ll find three items with the second one being UNLOCK DVD/TV WHILE DRIVING for Mercedes Benz .

** Does anyone have any experience of these types of products?

How about a thread on avoiding prosecution for driving under the influence of drink or drugs?

I am surprised that posts explaining how to break the law are allowed at all. Sorry, but to me the subject is in the same league as threatening members with physical violence.

Listen, in some countries it is illegal to carry a fuel can in the car. In others you'd be mad not to. Breaking the law is wrong and I wouldn't encourage it, but the law is different in different parts of the world so I don't accept your point about drink or drugs. Don't forget it's perfectly legal to take certain drugs in countries like Holland.

This forum is for MB enthusiasts to discuss points pertaining to their cars. Just because I believe driving fast is wrong and illegal doesn't mean I spend my time posting such comments on threads relating to increasing car performance or how to put speed camera information on my satnav.

I'm lucky enough to be able to employ a professional driver and often have to travel long distances in a country where there is no law against having video in motion.

On another thread a similar argument was given against discussing this issue, the reply was that just because we know how to commit a crime (and who doesn't) doesn't mean we actually commit the crime. We can all speed by putting our foot to the floor, but we don't. If in your country it is illegal to have video in motion, then don't enable the option. Does that mean we can't discuss how to do it?

Haydar, sorry I did not notice you lived in Pakistan. My comments were aimed at people in the UK, where I live. Different countries have their own requirements and laws which drivers must obay. I do not agree with what you say, but that is a personal opinion and i respect you right to express it.

No hard feelings oldcro. :) . I'm am british citizen working in Pakistan at the moment and I also believe everyone has the right to express their opinion. I would never dream of breaking the law in the UK, or any other country, and like I said in my earlier email, I believe it would be madness to watch a dvd and drive at the same time.

I only wanted to get the facts straight regarding this point.
