yes i think this is a common problem as i have experianced this on my w123 200 aswell. i think you can only get condensation if there is already moisture in the boot area. (warm moist air meeting a cold surface) causing condensation. maybe u have water getting in from the rear window at the corners or from therear light fittings or i think i read in here some place around the boot lock. either way moisture is present and collects on the underside of the boot lid, then runs back and collects , and as you open the boot water splashes out onto the boot floor. possibly u can drill a couple of small holes in the lip afround where the lights for the number plate are and maybe the water will be able to escape that way.
if anyone has any other ideas id be happy to hear them too
I think it may happen when the wheel arches corrode. Water spray can leak in and form puddles under the plastic trim covering the wheel arches inside the boot. There should be drain holes already, but they often get blocked up. Try removing the trim and unblocking the holes at the back of the wheel arch.
On the basis of allways best to check the cheap things first, try replacing the plastic lugs for the MB Star on the boot. If these do not seat properly (say if someone has replaced the badge but not the lugs) you get a surprising amount of water ingress. Worked on mine which is still going strong and passed upwards in the family!
