Hi, I’m going to be doing an oil change using the dipstick suction method and want to know the oil capacity.

Car is a 2016 E220 with a 2143cc OM651 engine.

Some sources say 6.5L and others say 5.5L.

I will be changing the oil filter so not sure how much that will have absorbed when I change it out.

Can anyone point me to a reliable source?

I’d also like to know the oil filter torque setting but I believe they are usually 25 n/m.

Thanks guys

It’s 6.5l with an oil and filter change on an om651. Undo and remove the filter first as what’s in there drops into the sump when you remove it. 25nm is correct.

Genuinely curious if anybody actually does this with an oil filter?
I've changed many in my younger years and just tightened them up by hand and never had a problem.
I wouldnt even know how to accurately check the torque...not that I will ever be changing one now. :D

With the electric pump you can see exactly what you get out. I did mine into 2ltr empty lemonade bottles (another benefit of the pump is no mess) got just under 7ltr out! Refilled with 6ltr and I'm happy with level on dipstick. Official capacity is 6.5 but try it after six and after you've run it as the filter takes up some of the capacity.
Get the oil well warmed up and it fly's out. Did mine in under 15mins

The cartridge filter on my Omega had an ally cap. Even torqueing them up to the 25Nm (???) could result in them not wanting to let go when you wanted to get them off, resulting in the lump it was fastened to slackening off too. The plastic Merc cap doesn't seem able to lock up the same

I always smear a little engine oil on the 'O' rings and torque to 25 NM. It's very easy to underestimate the torque when tightening without a torque wrench

So did I because it has always been regarded as best practice, but I have never owned the type of torque wrench required for this operation.
I'm happy to say I never encountered any problems. :)
