Hello all,

I am hoping someone can help me with my confusion, this morning I have unlocked my driver side door to get in and found that someone has been inside my car and nicked my Ipod from the glove box. Only thing I can think of is that the passenger door wasnt shut properly which meant that even though i locked the car the last person out of passenger side didnt shut it fully and left it open.

I cannot see signs of forced entry so thats why I have come to above conclusion. I do hope that its not that easy to enter the CLK W208 if the door was shut properly.

Also I am concerned that the alarm didn't go off. Does anyone if the alarm should go off if i opened the passenger side door without un-arming the car from remote?

After loosing my Ipod worth £230 I am very concerned about the security of my car.

Any advice/views is most appreciated.:(

Regards

It was overnight and in my drive, my wife was siting on passenger side so i walked out of my side and locked the car and the driver door was still locked but the passenger door was opened. I used the car last night and used the Ipod which was still there and only this morning i saw stuff scattered on the front floor out of the glovebox. you think its easy to enter a MB without breaking glass and why didnt the alarm go off?

i would say no but if the door was open would the alarm set ? you could try it & see if it sets or if it sounds off

I am not sure if the alarm would set if a door was on half catch. Do try it, then open the door, but I do not think that if the car locked with a door on half catch that it could be opened

Thanks Malcolm I have checked the alarm and it doesnt go off if I open the door with key without un-arming via Keyfob.

If i have armed the car, it should alarm me when someone tried to open the doors or sensed any movement inside the car as this person must have sat in the car to open the glove.

I am feeling very insecure right now as I now know that alarm isnt working and car is prone to theft

the alarm can be further tested by someone sitting in the car and you lock it, then they can move around to see if it works inside. do the blinkers flash when you arm it

Just been down to my car and tried locking with a door on ½ catch, the car locks all but that door, and the alarm does not set, and that door on the ½ catch can be opened, and as the alarm has not set, no alarm

Thanks Malc, In my case, the door locks at half catch but the alarm still doesn't set. I will check if my alarm works at all as this is quite shocking observation that if by accident i left a door on 1/2 catch, it would not set the alarm.

Ok, tested alarm, sensors are working as when i opened the car with key the blinkers did go off but there was no sound, so i beleive the siren is blown or faulty.

Malc, thanks for the diagram, Do you know if i can source this siren from Euro or do i need to go to MB.

Take a peep at their site, Ask MB how much, you could use any electronic siren, though I could do this I cant advise someone else, about £38 from MB I think

Thanks Malc, I will make a trip on my way home from work.

Just a quick question before I buy a new one, is there a setting where you set the alarm to mute like most brands such as Clifford/Toad, you can set the siren to mute by following consecutive button press in sequence. Also maybe worth checking the cables before buying a new siren
