great - now we get to have some fun

so..... the next interesting point is your vehicle is at a cross over where alongside Bluetooth telephone calls, it "might" do Bluetooth music streaming.

on some the physical components (hardware) is just too old (2011 was the time it came in)
on some its there, but get this secondary functionality to work is a little interesting
on others its there but not enabled (but you can go in a secret menu and turn it on :) )
and others it turns up after the software is updated

if you don't have music streaming option, take a look at the video and check if its there to turn on (in that secret menu)

if its not there but you can enable in the secret menu... the text beneath the video suggests when you next turn the car on the music streaming will have gone away. Never knew that was like that. So if its not there, but you can enable and then its not there next time you turn the car on, then a visits to a specialist to update your car's software would be a good idea and should bring that functionality as std to the car. Which is nice.

If you have that comand system ( I guess so as you turned the phone bit on) then updating to current software is a good idea, a main dealer or a few specialists will have the kit. Dealer might charge an hours labour to do it. A specialist a bit more as it ties up the equipment they need to do other work for up to 3 hours.

A separate cost would be to update the maps, you might find they do a deal (especially if you pay for the update and pay more for the maps) they had been offering in UK, European map updated for £99 for round 18 months 2 years until recently, but that ended a while back. But if you want it haggle.... Be aware from about now, the 2020 mapping should be out. Make sure you get the new version "just out" not the last year's one. Bigger posher dealers will be more up to date than some small town baby garage.

Many thanks again for the useful information. Thrsday 10 of October the car will go to the dealer for the winter tires and I will ask about it. BTW how can I get the secret menu?

Kind regards,

Robert

its in the video, phone buttons

End Call, 1 and # all at the same time for 10 seconds, scroll to "end" in the menu and select it to exit

if you want the work done its better to let them know in advance, before you turn up so the update bay in the workshop gets a 3 hours slot to do the work on your car... (should be one hour chargeable time...) always get prices and confirmation before you go

whilst there you can ask to check this (might only impact USA cars.... might not)

SUBJECT: Various Models (117, 166, 172, 204, 207, 212, 216, 218, 221, 222, 231, 251, and 463

platforms)

Model Year 2012-2014

Update engine electronics (ME-SFI) control unit software

the software of the Engine Electronics Control Unit ("ECU") may not meet production specifications, which could result in a Malfunction Indicator Light being displayed while no fault is present in the control unit. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will update the engine ECU software for the affected vehicles.

it would be very interesting if you can confirm which iOS you have on your phone.

Settings
General
Software update

if its on anything iOS xx.0 or iOS xx.1, I wouldn't be surprised it plays up,
if iOS xx.3 or higher it should work

iOS 13.1.2 came out today - 4 versions in 3 weeks - I guess its almost safe to install it - wish me luck :)

they've only been at it again

iOS 13.4.1 includes bug fixes for your iPhone.

  • Fixes an issue where devices running iOS 13.4 could not participate in FaceTime calls with devices running iOS 9.3.6 and earlier or OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 and earlier
  • Addresses a bug with the Settings app where choosing Bluetooth from the quick actions menu on the Home screen would fail

I saw iOS 13.4 was out, updated it went on OK and then can't connect to the car, un paired / repair nothing, a week later another update with some muttering about BT issues and all of a sudden the car and the phone love each other again !!

the perverse thing is more think its broken after the fix, where they really broke it with iOS 13.4 and both wifi and BT went mental.... maybe 13.41 only partly fixed what wasn't broken in 13.3 till apple improved it
