Console Lighting

Hi, the console lighting is not working on my '84 500SEC which as you can imagine is quite a problem especially when driving at night. Any ideas of where to start trying to solve? The adjuster does nothing when twisted btw.

start with the fuses

if that doesnt cure it, it could be the dimmer switch, as you suspect, or the fuse on the instrument cluster itself, if it's similar to the r107 set up I have. Unlikely to be the two bulbs failing simultaneously, much more likely to be a fuse or feed problem.
