Contemplating an A class.... Any thoughts or words of advice?

Hi all
I currently drive a w211. My wife has a 2017 Mark 7.5 Golf 1.6 TDI SE with navigation.
Neither of us are really that enamored with the Golf and I'm consequently looking at changing it. We looked at an A class A180 CDI 2015. It's an SE eco according to the advert with the 1.5 diesel engine and a six speed manual gearbox.
Only 43 k. miles on it too.
I'm seriously thinking of jumping but just wanted a feel from owners who have this car and their thoughts on it.

Don't buy a manual Mercedes. They're much better at automatics. I've had a couple of A classes as courtesy cars in the past, and they are nice cars, but I did find they feel cramped. That could be coming from the E class of course, but my wife has a B class and that doesn't feel cramped. The GLA may be better for inside space.
If you can find one, I'd go for the 200 over the 180. The 180 can feel a bit lacking at times and you have to work the engine more.

Having had an A200 and now driving a B180, personally I would look for a B200.

The A was nice but at 5’10” I often bumped my head getting in. The 2.1 Diesel engine was really good. Less room in the back.

The B has ample headroom, feels bigger than it is and is a lovely car to drive. I just chose the wrong engine thinking that it would be sufficient, next will be the B200.

As said above, buy an auto box

We set out to change my wife's SLK200K for a 4 door, it came down to a Golf or a A class. My preference was the Golf, & my wife couldn't decide.
Eventually she decided to stick with 2 doors & bought a SLC.

An A class will have the Renault engine.
I would say a golf for that size of car is better than an A class.
Go for a B if you want the merc badge.

My Daughter has a 2019 A180 and although she likes it I think it is a little sluggish particularly with more than a a couple of people on board. It doesn't bother her as she is normally on her own commuting into Norwich. The fuel consumption is good, around the 60mpg. Decision between Golf and A Class ? I like both of the cars. My only issue with the A Class is the Black trim and no alternative. I don't know if that is the same with the Golf ?

I decided against the A class. In the end I picked up a 2016 BMW 2 series active tourer.
2 litre diesel automatic.
