Convertible roof wont close CLK240 A209

Put the roof down today on our 2003 reg CLK240 A209 and now it wont go back up, nothing happens when pressing the button, message on the dash says to take to workshop.
Is there a manual way of getting the roof up please?

Success. The roof is back up and closed having followed that video. Thanks a million.

The rear cover for the roof was very stiff to lift up and put back down, not sure if thats normal with fighting against the hydraulic struts?

As for why the roof failed, I noticed the hydraulic fluid level in the bottle was at minimum. Is the brass bolt the fill point?..

I also noticed on the boot hinge when I fed the straps through, the plastic part of the rear hinges looked as though they had snapped. Both hinges were the same. Could this be the cause of the roof not operating?

Yes , fill by the brass nut .
and yes those rear plastic brackets need replacing .
Everything that moves need lubing . Especially the receiving bracket that is under the shiny metal oval flaps that sit on the rear deck .

The black plastic caps that sit on top of that broken hinge need to come off and get sprayed with lube .…regularly.

Got to admit, I was fearing it being a write off.

So a couple more questions please…

What hydraulic fluid do I need and how do you pour it through that hole being on the side of the bottle?

Anyone know the part number for the broken hinges please, and are they an easy swap?

MB Newcastle have an eBay page , you can contact them about replacement hinge thingys . They will let you know price/availability or searching eBay may yield second hand ones .
The fluid will be hydraulic fluid you will probably need to buy a Litre , there is a MB spec for it but I haven’t got it to hand .
As to filling the reservoir , you can tip the car onto its side using an old duvet to protect the paintwork or a small syringe might avoid that :cool:

Thanks. Not cheap are they, and I need two!

I wonder why they snapped? Could they have been under some strain? When lifting the roof cover up by hand it was very stiff, not sure if it is supposed to be?
Lifting by hand is very stiff , you are fighting hydraulic pressure , even with the pressure release buttons turned (I can’t remember if there is one either side or just on the right )
I think the hinges would last longer if everything was lubed correctly, but I guess as time goes by the lubrication fails slowly and the plastic gets brittle .
Don’t buy the hinges until someone has confirmed there isn’t a repair kit or method of repair available .

I'll maybe reopen the roof manually and go around everywhere with some lube. Clearly there are still issues as to why it wont close automatically so we wont be using the roof for now.

Would WD40 suffice, or silicone spray?

I would use silicone or gt85 , WD40 isn’t really a lubricant
