Convertible top

[Convertible]

Good Morning, A friend of mine recently purchased a 2003 SL500 convertible. The other day the top opened partway and stopped, he finally got it closed but now he's afraid to try it again. Somebody told him that a replacement pump is $1,400 plus labor. I've not seen the car, just a picture of the pump, part number A230 800 00 30.
Can the pump be rebuilt, or is his problem a limit switch somewhere? Any advise/recommendation is greatly appreciated. Thank You

Roof pumps are generally pretty reliable. It's usually the central locking ones that fail through getting water logged (but I digress).

Most likely a switch or sensor somewhere playing up. 15 minutes on Star should have it pinpointed.

Thank you for your input, unfortunately I do not know what Star is. I assume it is a diagnostic program, probably only available through the Mercedes dealership.

Star is dealer level diagnostics, that some of our indies (and a few of our members) have access to. It’s Mercedes specific so shows all the modules and details
