Coolant light 'on' all the time - almost!

Hi all - before I dive in and replace the sensor on the coolant bottle - does anyone have any suggestions as to alternative fixes for this problem?

It's a 1991 300E 24v saloon - the coolant warning light on the instrument panel is glowing orange when the ignition is switched on (with the engine running) - it's not at full brilliance - just a dull orange glow.

I have, of course, checked the coolant level and all is fine there - my next thought is the sensor (on the bottle) - is there anything I'm overlooking?

It's not a desperate problem (and there are lots of others on my car that are), but I hate warning lights on my instrument panel!

thanks
Andy

if you are sure that there is sufficient fluid in the resevoir plus the radiator itself then the sensor is to blame (at least it was on my w202)

Could possibly be washer bottle. Many Mercs link the washer & coolant sensors on the same circuit. Using a different resistor for each sensor, the instrument cluster determines which light to illuminate. The fact that the light is dim, could indicate a trapped, partially shorted wire. Check wiring first.

Cheers
