Hi folks

Small pipe burst on my '92 230CE and finding a replacement is both difficult and expensive... it's the 8cm rubber pipe between thermostat and waterpump. I am going to start converting the lot to silicon - unfortunately Samco/etc don't list a kit for any MBs.

Has anyone got the pipes off a 2.3 4-cyl and know the measurements ? It would save me tearing my car apart. I think the rad top-hose and the 8cm thermostat pipe are 45mm id; pipe from block to "device/valve" on chassis rail under expansion tank is 18mm or 20mm id

Why tear your hair out when the simple solution is just to visit the Merc dealer with your VIN and he will order the pipes for you in about 2/3 days delivery.
No need to take them off. The Merc parts system is second to none and will be the right parts if you supply the VIN.

The pipes have lasted 15 year do far, so the new ones will likely last 15 years again - where's the problem ???????????

From a Benz dealer, that 8cm x 4.5cm pipe is £30 + VAT !!!!! :-O

I'd rather spend the money on silicon that'll last twice longer. Think I'll just raid a scrapyard for the bit I need to give me time to figure out the silicon kit
