I went looking for my coolant temp sender today on my 2012 Viano with the 3.0 Cdi engine. Expected it would be similar to wife's CLK 220 Cdi in the stat housing but no. And I can't see it anywhere or find anything online that points to it.

Any ideas appreciated.

Om642 ? ..if im correct its on the right hand inlet manifold looking from front and situated at the top of manifold between the glow plugs… its quite small and is held in by a clip that slides in to secure it.
Just push down gently on it and slide clip out and lift it up, it has an o ring that makes the seal.

number 85..90…and 95 are the sensor and clip and o ring

Yep OM642 engine. Thanks for the clues to where it might be. I've just found a video which shows the sender location on an OM642 in a Jeep. Different pipework and easier access makes it easier to see at 21sec. Seems I will have to remove that alloy tube from the turbo on mine before I'll find it.

Yes mines on the same modelJeep discovered its location when doing turbo change and oil cooler seals and removed it when cleaning inlet manifolds.
You will need to remove the the tube to gain access…. top tip here is once you get to it tie some string onto the clip before you pull it out then it cannot fall and be lost.
Clip comes out quite easily and refitting just needs some pressure on the sensor to get the clip started…. You may lose some coolant depending on the height of the systems header tank but it will not be much.

Thanks. I was looking for it as the other day Mrs D had her coolant sensor fail on her CLK 220Cdi to show overheat which caused limp home to engage meaning a horrible end to a journey. I assumed mine would be located the same in the stat housing so thought I'd carry a spare just in case. A bit more hassle to swap though on the 3.0Cdi.
