Mercedes c 220cdi 2012 model
Hi Guys,

i am on my third Mercedes with 2.1cdi engines, 2x c class and now an E class. Three cars all kept coming up with the same request for coolant top every few hundred miles. Considering this has happened in three different cars I have to wonder if this is normal or a known fault. Any advice would be useful.
Thank you.

It just seems strange to me. THree different vehicles, no traces of leakage on hose's or fluid stains on the driveway and non showing in the oil.

I have the same with 2 of my cars. The e class would need topping up every week or 2. The water was leaking out of the frost plug. It left no traces on the driveway. With the frost plugs they tend only to leak under pressure when the car is usually up to temperature. It only has to be a very tiny hole in it as well. Mine was the plug on the passenger side next to the starting motor. Once one goes, the others like to follow.
The undertray is a good source of water catchment.
Since I finally discovered the leak and replaced the frost/core plug, I've not had to top up the water.

Plastic and cycling temp fluids just doesn't work.

Ohhhhh dear.
Shoddy lazy mechanic.
Worst crap ever that sticks like poo to a blanket to every part of your coolant circuit.
Find leak, fix leak.

Worst thing you can do.

If there is any air in the heater core it will create a blockage that's impossible to remove. Had that happen in two cars.

Never ever ever use k-seal unless it's a complete emergency.

If I ever see the telly tale signs if k-seal in a coolant system it's time to walk away.
