We have had threads where the brake warning lamp has stayed on after fitting new pads. Saw today at the trade show why, when using copper grease, if you get this on the back of the pads and it rains, conduction will take place against the alli calliper, owing to the voltage differnce. Copper paste/grease should not be used on Aluminium.

there is a correct grease, will put it up later.

Good to know Malcolm, could never bring myself to put grease anywhere near pads but I know it solves a lot of squeal problems. I think alot of these problems are caused by use of patern part pads which squeal till they are worn out, genuine are the only way to go.

I wonder how many of us are guilty of this then? Quite a number I imagine, certainly me!

Its a matter of knowing or what we are told.

I know that alli sits a long way from copper in the alectolysis scales. When I tried to clean my callipers I found that the copper has eaten the surface where it has been.
I have the correct pruduct and will post details in the morning.

While on this subject, many cars after a front crash where the rad has been replaced, it has been found that the radiator has not been grounded (earthed) what can happen here is the antifreeze solution eats through the copper and lead through the electroysis action, so a couple of years down the line after a frontal, the rad can go.

Gets worse,I am going to bed.

do you think the copper thread compound

could have caused the ABS problem I suffered earlier this year, which came and went without reason or rhyme? I certainly had copperslip on the pad backings last year when I had new pads.

Intresting to note that you have aluminium calipers.
Usually reserved for racing calipers or expensive sports cars.;-)

I thought that mine was an expensive sports car  , but I do have aluminium calipers, even with steel, there is a voltage difference. For cars all cars an electical voltage can flow from copper grease and under the worst conditions can cause problems with the electronics.

The problem is not with copper as such but steel when in contact with aluminium which leads to electrolytic corrosion. In the offshore industry Zinc blocks are attached to the aluminium and act as sacrificial anodes so the corrosion affects the zinc and not the aluminium. The copper grease is conductive but its only trying its best!.Use a smear of any non conductive heavy grease.

As modern ABS and ESP systems get more sensitive, problems were accuring through use of the copper grease and these systems, this is why TMD friction brought out the copper free grease.
