Hi im trying to work out what the correct absolute oil level is for a clk 500. I have just completed an oil change and 8.9litres came out wich seems to much. Prior to dropping the oil the absolute level was 7.5 im now wondering if that was to high. When checking the standard way it has always said oil level OK but I put 8 litres back and it says absolute level of 6.5 but when checked the standard way it also says oil level OK. Anyone know what the correct absolute oil level should be??

Does it have a DPF? Sometimes a raised engine oil level can indicate DPF problems. Failure to regen properly can mean frequent attempts, and each time, additional fuel is injected into the cylinder, some of which can find its way into the oil, raising the level. Of course, this only applies to diesel engines. Do you which engine it has? And the year would help too.

I'm sure someone will be along later that knows answers to your questions, but I guess that your car doesn't have a normal diptsick ...

sadly no. I purchased a workshop dip stick from ebay but it has alot of friction in the tube and is hard to get the same reading twice at best i would guess it is reading approx 136mm . I know the correct level is 148 which is what it has shown a few occasions prior to the oil change but im not completly confident its getting all the way to the bottom

If there is a dipstick tube you may be able to get a dipstick from a scrap yard. My car, with the same engine, has a dipstick.
