Yes peoples, gasp in amazement that the mighty behemoth soldiers stoically onwards.

But with an eye to winter, I feel some fresh coolant to replace the rather dirty looking stuff in the system would be a wise idea.

But which kind? I'm bleary eyed trying to work it out.

Advice from the collective greatly received!

Rust safely people!

MB coolant simples.

Drain.
Refill with water - getting up to temp with heaters on,
Drain
Refill with water and a coolant system cleaner - getting up to temp with heaters on,
Drain
Refill with distilled water - getting up to temp with heaters on,
Drain
Refill with distilled water - getting up to temp with heaters on,
Drain
Knowing vol of coolant system, add neat coolant to provide 50:50. Add distilled water to too off.
Bleed and top of with a 50:50

Best done on a dry day.
If you want to do it quicker and be more astute. Do all the above with stat removed (no need to run it up temp). Insert new stat before adding coolant.

Thank you for the above.

It seems the original spec coolant is no longer available from Mercedes, and the one they now sell is for cars 2014 on. It's also expensive...

It appears (depending on what you read) that the original coolant was blue. Or yellow. Or pink. Or green. From what I can see colour does not appear to have any relationship to what the coolant is actually composed of, since it's just a dye. So much for the "OAT is always pink" rule.

The original stuff was apparently an "HOAT" mixture, then changed to a G48 spec. Hmm.

I shall go with a Mannol product, which is 1. Well priced...2. Ready mixed... 3. Matches the original 325 Mercedes spec.

Oh, and it's red. Whatever.

Ever was it thus.o_O

Try buying MB blue antifreeze from a MB truck place, they still sell it. I bought my last lot off E-Bay. I have had some blue anti-freeze within last year from MB dealer in Basingstoke
